Ways and Means Announces Russian PNTR Action Next Week
Top House Ways and Means Republicans and Democrats just announced they have struck an agreement on legislation granting Permanent Normal Trade Relations status to Russia, paving the way for a committee mark up next week.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich), ranking Democrat Sander Levin (Mich), trade subcommittee chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) and ranking Democrat Jim McDermott (Wash) said they have reached an understanding that the Magnitsky bill sanctioning Russian officials involved in the murder of Russian anti-corruption watchdog Sergei Magnitsky will be combined with PNTR before the measure goes to the full House.
The lawmakers said they expect their PNTR bill will mirror the legislation reported out yesterday by the Senate Finance Committee, which includes a number of reporting requirements to ensure Russia is living up to its WTO commitments.
